Editorial: Gas Prices on the Rise!

Gas prices have slightly decreased for the month of July in Hattiesburg, Ms. The people of the town are driving less, but this is not causing a dramatic drop in the gas prices. Gas prices are still on the rise in other current cities in the United States today. For example, in San Diego, CA, the current gas price is $3.77 per gallon.  This city has been experiencing increases in gas prices for three consecutive days. The people of the city have grown accustomed to the high gas prices; due to July is the busiest traveling month in America.

The national average price of self-service gasoline per gallon on Monday was $3.631. Another city where gas prices are on the rise is Atlanta. According to Atlantagaspricees.com, the average gas price of Atlanta is $3.47 per gallon. Gas prices have increased more in the southern states than any other place in the country. Gas prices could possibly increase throughout the year.  The last time gas prices were at an all-time high was in the year 2008. Traders would say that gas prices in the present are based on the gas prices of the past.

Gas prices are on the rise due to crude oil prices.  For example, traders who think the price oil will be high, bid it up even higher. Another factor that causes high gas prices is the declining dollar. Like most of the items you purchase, oil is based on supply and demand also. Traders will drive of the gas prices even when the supply increases and the demand decrease. Are traders really responsible for gas prices? President Obama investigated whether are not traders were manipulating the gas prices. The attorney generals put together a team in order to root out any type of fraud and to protect consumers.

I believe that gas prices will go down in the winter, since most people don’t travel in the winter. The only time people will be traveling is to shop or visit families for the holidays. On the contrary, people enjoy outside activities and even other states during the summer causing them to drive vehicles more. So, may gas prices are supposed to be high in the summer.

Gas prices are higher in the southern states, because unlike other areas of the world we have less methods of transportation. People in the East, West, and Midwest have other means of transportation besides vehicles. The northern urban areas would rather walk instead of drive to locations. There are trains and trolleys in the south, but we are less like to ride a train to a destination. I believe that southerners would rather drive to a location than walk.

I believe that the traders could do all of the people of the United States a favor and compete on who can have the lowest gas price. We would all enjoy the comfort of being able to pay a dollar or two for a gallon of gas like the old days.  The government and politics should be held accountable for gas prices, also. They have the authority to make changes in the world and should voice their opinions on the outrageous gas prices. Hopefully, gas prices will be lowered for the United States consumers.
